What is Mercury-Safe? Are All Dentists Mercury Safe? The Difference Between Mercury-Free and Mercury-Safe

In a world where we are exposed to various toxic chemicals, it is easy to overlook the ones already present in our bodies, including mercury. As dental practices evolve beyond the standard mercury-silver filling, new techniques are emerging to help manage the safe removal of mercury amalgams, thereby minimizing exposure and health risks.

At Studio Z Dental, we firmly believe in being "mercury-free" and have been so since 2000. What does that mean for you? It means we do not offer silver fillings as part of our dental services. Additionally, we provide a safe and straightforward amalgam removal procedure to help you transition easily to a mercury-free mouth.

What is Mercury-Safe Amalgam Removal?

When mercury fillings are removed, an out-gassing occurs during the grinding process. This is unsafe for both the patient and the dentist if not appropriately managed. It is essential to strictly follow the guidelines outlined by the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology when removing old mercury fillings. That includes:

  • Placing a rubber dam to isolate the tooth from the rest of the mouth

  • Putting the patient on pure oxygen to ensure clean air intake

  • Utilizing a high-tech air purifier to suck in the mercury vapor for proper disposal

The mercury removal process is very safe; removing an old filling takes only a few minutes. Studio Z Dental can also create a long-term removal plan for clients who wish to replace multiple fillings with mercury-free alternatives.

Remember that Studio Z Dental is one of the few dental offices offering this safe mercury removal procedure. If you are interested and would like to learn more about the procedure, please watch the video below.
