So I think for a long time, jaw pain or what we call like TMD or the dysfunction of your joint in your mouth is that it was kind of not really understood. So now we understand that a lot of that jaw pain really is coming from one of two major things. So there’s airway component to that and then there’s the malocclusion or misalignment of the teeth and the bite over time.
So if you think about it, a misaligned bite is almost like compensating your muscles for many, many years. So if you’re wearing two different shoes, one’s higher than the other over time, something’s going to kind of compensate in your hips and then your back and then everything’s going to be thrown off. The same thing happens from the top down.
So when I’m assessing someone’s joint, I’m really trying to figure out what’s the root cause of this dysfunction. And I’m using certain tools to reset that jaw or to deprogram it and then to get them back into a healthy bite so that we don’t have those same chronic issues moving forward.
