Dr. Sonaty Talks about Gum Disease and Prevention
So gum disease is one of those things that I think is probably one of my passions to talk about. I was a hygienist for a decade before I came into my doctor role, so to me looking at periodontal disease, it’s not just about the mouth, it’s about the systemic effects of that. So when it comes to a patient, it’s about their overall health, their inflammatory state, just really looking at how can we treat this person in the oral components of that, but what’s their overall health look like at that point.
Because we know that anyone who’s suffering periodontal disease, they also have a lot of inflammatory things and other diseases in their body. So how are we taking care of all those things? By doing that treatment. We use ozone during our periodontal treatments.
We also use laser therapy to help with that process as well. I feel like there’s always an individualized answer to everything. So it’s not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to home care, what works for everyone doesn’t always work for everyone.
To maintain a healthy and just radiant smile and that incorporates your gum care as well. So our goal is to help you on that journey of finding what those products are, what you need to do as an individual. We believe that, you know, medical care should be individualized and it should be not a one-size-fits-all approach to that.
So it’s all about what’s going to work best in your hands and is you as an individual. There’s a lot of really great homeopathic and just natural options out there that patients can utilize. It’s not always a chemical answer to a biological problem.
So we’re looking at you, we’re trying to say, you know, what does work well in your hands? Are you okay with doing like a physical manual toothbrush? Do we need to use something electrical? All those things kind of come down to that individualized model of what’s going to work for you and your situation.
