Relax With Safe, Gentle IV Sedation

Dr. Sara Qadi trained extensively to administer surgical IV moderate sedation safely and cost effectively in the office setting. Dentists who administer this type of sedation must obtain advanced education in anesthesia and regularly undergo a rigorous office anesthesia evaluation and certification.

You’ll receive moderate IV sedation intravenously (directly into the vein) so we can ensure you receive the correct amount of medication at all times. This type of sedation provides an altered state of consciousness where you’ll have reduced memory, anxiety levels, and pain perception. As a result, you’ll become very relaxed and comfortable during your procedure. From the time moderate sedation starts until you leave the office, you’ll feel like you have been asleep because you won’t remember anything.

Moderate IV sedation differs from general anesthesia. You are completely “out” or asleep when under general anesthesia. An anesthesiologist is needed to assist because you cannot breathe independently.

However, with moderate sedation:

  • You can maintain your airway, reducing risks.
  • Recovery from mild IV sedation is easier on you too.
  • You will generally feel no discomfort.
  • Most people do not recall or feel any part of their procedure, including numbing/local anesthesia.
  • The sedative effect may last several hours, so you may be groggy most of the day.

Because you may feel disoriented, you will need someone to take you home from the office on the day of your appointment. We cannot sedate you if you do not have a responsible adult to accompany you after your appointment.

Our sedation is safe, but you must let us know about all medications and drugs you take and let us know of any medical problems, so we can tailor the sedation based on your needs and avoid possible side effects.

Our team is happy to provide this service to help you have the most comfortable experience possible! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
