At Studio Z Dental, we provide a thorough dental exam after each dental cleaning.

Why do you need a dental exam, not just a cleaning?

  • A hygienist is not a dentist. They have not been trained in diagnosing dental issues and, therefore, cannot legally do so.
  • Since hygienists are not dentists, problems that a dentist may catch early, if missed, can fester longer and worsen over time. This could result in more time spent in the dental chair, increased expenses, or a greater loss of tooth structure down the road.
  • If you choose to have an independent hygienist for your primary provider, you will still need an exam when you come to a dental office. If the hygienist recommends treatment, their opinion must be verified by our dentist in a separate appointment. We can then confirm their findings and schedule therapy as needed.

What are the essential elements of a quality dental exam vs an independent hygienist?

Our dentists not only diagnose from X-rays; we also have significant training in quickly detecting signs of gum disease, oral cancer, or other possible oral health problems. During initial exams, we also assess how your jaws align and verify that your bite is correct.

We take a complete dental and medical history before the exam. This is important because certain things, including medications or chronic diseases, can adversely affect dental health. We will take these factors into account to help you achieve the best possible oral health.

An independent hygienist may not understand the urgency or severity of your dental needs. If we find cavities, gum disease, or any other oral health issues, we will provide a detailed explanation of the necessary steps right there on the spot, so you can begin treatment promptly. You may be trying to save money by avoiding a qualified dental exam, but you may spend more on a further progressed dental issue due to a delayed diagnosis.

State-of-the-art technology. Don’t settle for less.

At Studio Z Dental, we are a holistic and state-of-the-art practice. The latest technology ensures you and your teeth get the highest quality care. We go above and beyond a standard X-ray for diagnosing dental problems with our modern technology.

We use Carivu detection, a  “Transilluminating Caries Detection Device.” This imaging device uses near-infrared light to detect microscopic issues in teeth. It can scan lesions and cracks that may not be visible to the naked eye or in a regular X-ray, offering your dentist a way to provide a more thorough examination.

We are also one of the few dentists to offer ozone treatment. Medical-grade ozone is a safe and more effective way to treat periodontal disease, disinfect deep decay, disinfect extraction sites, and treat other serious dental conditions. It is also an effective fungicide, bactericide, and virucide.
