Some patients seem to develop areas where the jawbone lacks bone density and so when you look at them on an x-ray you see an area that looks a lot more gray than the surrounding healthy bone which comes out as more of a whitish color. Typically with these cavitations what they are is they are called necrotic or dead islands of bone and you know this could be a burden on the immune system and on the individual and so what we offer patients who have cavitations in their jaws, what we do for these cavitations is we open them up, we clean them out, get to really healthy bleeding bone, we incorporate a platelet-rich fibrin clot into that cavitation and close you know slowly close the gum tissue over it and once they heal and you see the results what you find is that that kind of punched out grayish island of dead bone turns into healthy normal homogenous bone that looks white and very much like the surrounding tissue and patients typically will report feeling overall better, less fatigued, less tired and groggy day to day and you know we’ve had great success with treating these these lesions.
What Is a Cavitation?
A cavitation is a hollow, often infected area of bone that has failed to heal properly after a tooth extraction, root canal, or trauma. These hidden areas may contain harmful bacteria and dead tissue (also called necrotic bone) that disrupt your body’s immune function and contribute to chronic symptoms such as:
- Low-grade infections
- Unexplained fatigue or malaise
- Headaches or facial pain
- Brain fog
- Digestive issues
- Autoimmune flares
- Systemic inflammation
How We Diagnose Cavitations
Most cavitations are invisible on traditional dental X-rays. At Studio Z Dental, we use state-of-the-art 3-D cone beam CT imaging to detect these hidden bone infections with precision. This advanced imaging gives us a complete view of your jawbone, allowing us to locate problem areas that could otherwise be missed.
